The 12th anniversary of a very important night in my life . . .

. . . is this month. On Saturday, November 12, 2005, I woke up in Copenhagen at the end of a two-week tour of teaching gigs in Europe. That night in New York City I was to share the stage with my mentor Billy Collins at an event that would become the first of a monthly series at the Bowery Poetry Club called Page Meets Stage, which has been going strong ever since, always pairing on stage together two poets, one more “literary” and the other more “performative.” In the event that my plane would be delayed, my friend Rives was prepared to take my place (or pretend to be me?), and I would have been sorely disappointed. But it all worked out, and the rest is history.

On the Sunday after Thanksgiving this year (November 26th), I will be returning to the Bowery Poetry Club to host the 97th pairing of Page Meets Stage, which will have Jennifer Michael Hecht meet and read opposite Brendan Constantine. This will be our last pairing before 2018, and I’d be honored to have a good crowd for this post-Thanksgiving metaphorical feast.
